Composite Pools on TLC's Moving Up

Watch the Strubble family from New Jersey transform their backyard with a Sydney model Composite Pools Spa on Saturday August 22 at 10/9c on TLC's Moving Up. Working on this episode of the show was lots of fun. Dell Pools in Hawthorne NJ stepped up to the plate and helped us with the install. The backyard also sports other items from our Extended Living Space Program like Telescope Casual Furniture, Goticstone pavers, and California Outdoor Concepts. I'll post pictures as soon as they are available.

Why a Composite Pool is Eco-Friendly

Turn on the TV or open a magazine and you can't help but find a company marketing their product as "eco-friendly". We understand how important it is to provide a product that impacts the environment as little as possible. Compared to the two other types of swimming pools (vinyl liner and gunite), composite pools are definately the most environmentally conscious.
For starters the surface of a composite pool is smoother (non-porous), which means that algae is less prone to become attached to it. Because of this you will use fewer chemicals to keep your pool clean. Additionally, when you use an automatic pool cleaner, the time it takes to clean your pool will be drastically reduced.

Composite pools also act as a natural insulator, which means less gas and/or electric to keep it heated, when compared to a vinyl liner or gunite pool. Depending on the climate and the size of your pool, you could save up to $225 per month on pool maintenance with a composite pool versus other types of pools.

Another factor that makes a composite pool more eco-friendly is the fact that they do not have steel panels or steel mesh/rebar for their structure. Our pools are installed using sand, which means they do not have the potential to leech chemicals and rust back into the groundwater. Our pools also never need to be re-plastered like a gunite pool and there is no liner to replace, which means that there is no unnecessary waste in our landfills.

How Lighting Can Enhance Your Backyard

Photographers have known for years that lighting can make or break a shot; the same holds true with your backyard. Lighting your backyard involves more than just adding a light to your pool or having an outdoor porch light. This backyard picture, supplied by Aqua One Pool and Spa in Cedar Point NC, does an excellent job of highlighting the pool and the exterior of the house.

We have partnered up with Jandy and Fiberstars to offer the best in pool lighting. Fiberstars offers fiber optic and LED lighting and Jandy offers LED and Xenon lighting. The best thing about both of these companies is the ability to set the product on a solid color or rotate through many colors. It's like you have a kaleidoscope in your backyard.

Pool lighting is more than ambiance. It's an important element for safety. Read more about Jandy lights at http://www.jandy.com/ and more about fiberstars at http://www.fiberstars.com/.

Pool of the Quarter - Spring 09

This Venus pool (14'x33') was installed by Best Pools in South Carolina. The simplicity of this clean design and exquisite view make this backyard great for entertaining. The fiber optic lighting adds an upscale feel to the space.

Kudos to the team at Best Pools for another job well done. Congratulations on winning Composite Pools Pool of the Quarter for Spring 2009.
